We have been to Tenerife
a couple of times before so we did not visit many new places. Instead we
planned to try and get up Mount Teide which we had not been able to do before
because of the bad weather conditions, and go to the Carnival in Santa Cruz. We
stayed in Los Cristianos. For
previous years picture click here.
On one day we took one
of the local walks (about 6 miles). Once on the plateau the marked path
disappeared and so we took what we thought was the right path. The walk was a
lot more that six miles and part was difficult walking (not 'moderate' as in
the book). However it was enjoyable and had it's own surprise. In the middle of
the plateau we came across a nativity scene which was not mentioned in the
book.

Mount Teide cable car was
operating, however once we arrived at the top we were informed that it had just
been closed because the weather had closed in. It was -8 at the top and now in
a blizzard. On returning to the cable car base site it had just started snowing
whereas the summit was in a blizzard. It soon stopped and the road began to
dry, steam started to rise from the tarmac.
The highlight of the holiday was
the Carnival in Santa Cruz. Even with the rain at the start spirits were not
dashed. The theme of this years carnival was Monsters and Horrors of the Nigh.
Although highly colourful it was difficult to see how some of the entrants were
either monsters or horrors of the night. Here are just a few pictures from the
all day event.
